Meng disappeared without a trace one summer night after jumping from a train in Korsør on the island of Zealand. She was not found until Christmas Eve that year, when she was found murdered and dumped in a lake.
The case remained unsolved until the man was arrested for kidnapping a 13-year-old girl in 2023. At the same time, Meng's DNA was found in his home.
In addition to the murder of Meng, the man was convicted of aggravated crimes against the 13-year-old and a 15-year-old girl.
The now 35-year-old man has consistently denied the murder of Meng. According to Berlingske, he was re-questioned and confessed. His lawyer says he wants to take responsibility for his actions.
