The odds seem to be against von Horn, whose film was selected as Denmark's Oscar entry but did not proceed in the nomination process. In the category of best international film, where "The Girl with the Needle" is competing, Jacques Audiard's musical crime comedy "Emilia Pérez" is generally expected to take home the prize.
Audiard's film has been nominated for ten prizes, which is a record in a musical genre where "Cabaret" and "Barbie" have historically had the most prize opportunities.
Post-war drama and Vatican thriller
But Brady Corbet's epic post-war drama "Brutalist" is also believed to have good chances of taking home several prizes with its seven nominations, with Edward Berger's Vatican thriller "Conclave" as the closest competitor.
Are there more Swedish chances at the gala? Yes, two of the actors from Ali Abbasi's Donald Trump film "The Apprentice" are nominated: Sebastian Stan and Jeremy Strong. Stan, the lead actor, is believed to have the greatest chance, even though the trade magazine Variety has placed him last on its odds list.
Lykke Li can win a prize
Additionally, Lykke Li has the opportunity to win a prize for "Beautiful that way" from the film "The Last Showgirl" with Pamela Anderson. She wrote the song together with Miley Cyrus and Andrew Wyatt.
Many are also hoping that Ariana Grande and Selena Gomez will win prizes – but in the category of best female supporting role, they are competing against each other, Grande with her performance in "Wicked" and Gomez with "Emilia Pérez".
On the TV side, "Shogun", "The Bear", and "Baby Reindeer" are doing well on the odds lists.
The gala starts in Los Angeles at 02 Swedish time, on Sunday night. Comedian and actress Nikki Glaser is this year's host.
