Forsberg made 92 international appearances and scored 21 goals. One of the most important came eight years ago in St. Petersburg, with Larsson on the pitch.
"I just want to say big congratulations on a fantastic national team career. He's been a good teammate who has meant a lot to Swedish national football. I immediately think of Switzerland in our last World Cup, when he took us to the quarter-finals," says Larsson.
Sweden won the round of 16 in 2018 with 1–0.
In 2021, Forsberg won the Guldbollen, the award for Sweden's best male footballer. He was selected by Graham Potter for the World Cup qualifiers last November, but he was snubbed for the playoffs and the World Cup.
