The country's rescue service and government have said that they immediately began delivering aid to the victims, but according to the inhabitants, it has been delayed and earlier in the week, many of those affected still had not received any help. But on Wednesday, it began to reach the victims.

What we need now is consumer goods, and the government and some private individuals are providing us with that, says Mohammed Shaba Aliyu who comes from one of the affected areas.

The country's vice president Kashim Shettima promised on Wednesday that the government will donate "mixed food products" and two billion naira, equivalent to approximately 12 million kronor, to rebuild the homes that were destroyed.

At the same time, several international aid organizations have said that they are working with local authorities to support the distribution.

The Red Cross has described the situation as one of the "deadliest disasters in recent years in Nigeria".
