Tour operator Ving has sent a message to its travelers on site not to take to the roads.
The storm, named Claudia, hit the western islands of La Palma and Tenerife on Wednesday and is expected to move towards Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote overnight on Thursday. An orange warning for heavy rain has been issued and schools will be closed on Thursday.
In Tenerife, several roads have been closed due to fallen trees and landslides, Spanish media reports. Eleven flights had to be diverted from Gran Canaria and La Palma on Wednesday due to the weather.
One of the planes that was diverted came from Gothenburg.
They were allowed to land in Fuerteventura but were later able to continue on to Gran Canaria, says Charlotte Hallencreutz, information officer at Ving.
There is currently no information about cancelled flights from the Canary Islands.
