Anthropic, which developed the language model Claude, is accused of training the AI service without permission on 274 copyrighted songs by the rock icon, including the hits "Can't Help Falling in Love", "A Little Less Conversation" and "Don't Be Cruel".
The lawsuit was filed by a group of rights holders, including Authentic Brands Group, who accuse Anthropic of building “its entire business model on copyright infringement on a scale never seen before,” according to a statement from attorney Richard Busch.
The lawsuit was filed on Friday and seeks damages of up to $150,000 per song, a total of just over $41 million, equivalent to more than 400 million kronor, NME writes.
The Elvis case is the most high-profile yet in a series of lawsuits against AI companies in the music industry.
