Elversberg became the smallest club ever to play in the Bundesliga when the team played its first match in the top division on Saturday.

And it made a stylish debut.

After just ten minutes, they had a two-goal lead over last year's sixth-placed team. The 3-0 goal also came early in the second half.

In the 77th minute, Leverkusen reduced the deficit through Patrik Schick, followed by Christian Kofane in stoppage time. But no equaliser came, meaning Elversberg won its first Bundesliga match.

The club's municipality has around 13,000 inhabitants, and the town of Elversberg has around 7,800 residents. The club was promoted from the German second division last season for the first time in Elversberg's history.
