The shares will be distributed to children next year, Elon Musk writes in a post on the social network X.
The initiative comes just hours after AI competitor Anthropic - which is expected to go public at a valuation of $2 trillion (nearly SEK 20 trillion) in November - said it wanted to put 5 percent of its shares into a new charitable fund. The fund will finance measures including efforts to address AI’s negative impact on the labor market.
According to public statistics, there are 72 million children in the United States. At the current price of $146 per SpaceX share, Musk’s stock dividend to children would be worth a total of $10.5 billion (just over SEK 100 billion). Five percent of Anthropic’s shares are worth roughly the same amount.
