Musk announced in July that he would form a new party called America Party. "Ridiculous", commented then US President Donald Trump.

But now the party plans seem to have been put on the shelf. The Tesla and X owner wants to focus on his companies instead, according to The Wall Street Journal's sources. He is also said to be nervous about alienating powerful Republicans - including Vice President JD Vance - by starting a party that could attract voters from the Republicans.

Elon Musk was frequently seen by Donald Trump's side during the election campaign last autumn and was until a few months ago the president's adviser, responsible for the efficiency agency Doge, which was formed to cut the state's expenses.

Since Musk left his position in the White House in May, he has clashed with the president on several occasions via social media, not least about Trump's state budget.

Instead, Musk has focused on maintaining the bond with Vice President JD Vance, writes The Wall Street Journal.
