Usually, Ellerströms have a summer book sale with a 30 percent discount, but this year it was completely impossible. Instead, the publisher asked the readers to buy books at the regular price.
I do not want to sound whiny, but sometimes we have to turn up the volume a bit, we work day and night!
Sales have decreased and so has the state literature support from the Cultural Council, says Marie Pettersson. Based on previous experience, the publisher had several titles in the spring that they believed would bring in the retroactive literature support at the same level as before, but that did not happen.
In a meeting, we had five titles but only got support for one – and there we had thought we would get support for more.
The literature support has been at the same level "forever" she notes, at the same time as almost everything else has become significantly more expensive.
Something has broken in the system with reviews, book lists and sales. The contract is broken, I feel, we need to re-establish it.
How is Ellerströms' publication then affected? Marie Pettersson does not know for sure yet.
In the spring, we thought that we would have to cut back on the narrowest unfortunately, and that is what we do not want, if not even we can publish those titles, who will do it?
