It was definitely a big step, both in terms of tone and genre. But I tackle all jobs the same way. Everything has its challenges, she tells TT.
The action film, it's "Predator: Badlands", which premieres on Friday. There, Elle Fanning plays the role of a cyborg. And the drama is the critically acclaimed "Sentimental Value", where she plays the American actor who is offered a role by the director played by Stellan Skarsgård.
It was wild. I came from filming “Predator” in New Zealand, flew straight to Paris and then drove to Deauville, where I started filming the next day. Tough, yes. But I think the fact that I had just shot an action movie helped me create the character in “Sentimental Value.”
Most dangerous in the universe
The new “Predator” movie is set far in the future. A young “predator” arrives on a planet said to be the most dangerous in the universe. He meets a female cyborg and together they try to survive.
I don't want to feel locked into anything, I want to try everything, all genres. I want to be brave and feel like I'm surprising both myself and the audience. At the same time, I approach every job the same way.
Elle Fanning loves science fiction and “Arrival” is her favorite film in the genre.
I like surprises. Sci-fi gives us the opportunity to travel to other worlds. It feels like being a child. Anything is possible. There are no limitations. What should the creatures on the planet look like? What should the planet look like?
I've always loved series in the genre, like the "Alien" and "Predator" movies. It was really exciting to finally have the opportunity to be in a film like that.
“A kind of buddy comedy”
The cyborg that Fanning plays has been on the planet for several years and has had the opportunity to analyze it, she notes.
She's a broken personality, now she meets a "predator" who is also broken and it becomes a kind of buddy comedy. It was incredibly fun to work on balancing being a robot and being human. It takes this film series forward in a way that can hopefully be used in other films.
