In his victory speech on Sunday, Dodik attributed his pro-Russian party SNSD’s victory to Donald Trump’s return as US president and the support of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Darijana Filipović of the nationalist HDZ party and Denis Bećirović of the social democratic SDP, meanwhile, look set to become the representatives of the Bosnian Croats and Bosniaks, respectively.

Dodik was ousted in February last year. He had previously been sentenced to prison and banned from holding political office for six years for “separatist actions.”

Bosnia and Herzegovina is governed by a presidential council with a rotating presidency and representatives of the country’s three ethnic groups.
