The 30-year-old, who received a wildcard into the tournament, defeated Tomislav Pucar of Croatia 3-2 in sets.
It was a difficult match, a special match. There wasn't really much play, says the Swede, who was highly praised by SVT's expert Mikael Appelgren
"It's absolutely crazy," says Appelgren.
Elias Ranefur controlled the match from the start, played many good balls, kept his nerves in check and secured a quarter-final spot. The set scores were 11-7, 5-11, 11-7, 9-11, 11-8.
Now he awaits the quarter-finals against world number three Sora Matsushima of Japan.
"I'll go for it. I believe in my game and can challenge anyone," says Ranefur.
