The 30-year-old, who received a wildcard into the tournament, defeated Croatia’s Tomislav Pucar 3-2 in sets.
It was a difficult match, a special match. There wasn't really much play, says the Swede, who was highly praised by SVT's expert Mikael Appelgren
"It's absolutely crazy," says Appelgren.
Elias Ranefur controlled the match from the start, played many fine shots, kept his nerves in check and secured a quarter-final spot. The final scores were 11-7, 5-11, 11-7, 9-11, 11-8.
Now awaits the quarter-finals against either Zhou Qiha from China or world number three Sora Matsushima of Japan.
"I'll go for it. I believe in my game and can challenge anyone," says Ranefur.
