Elias Pettersson needed only 59 seconds – then he had cracked the zero goals for the season. The Swede gave Vancouver a dream start in the away game against Washington, a match that eventually ended 4–3 to the Canadians.

Pettersson had already been noted for several assists during the season start, but it took until the sixth round before the goal account was opened. And when it finally happened, it went fast – barely a minute after the face-off, he found the right spot behind the Washington goalkeeper.

Vancouver got a flying start overall and led 4–0 halfway into the match, before Washington started to wake up. Rasmus Sandin was noted for an assist in the 2–4 reduction, and when Washington pushed in another goal with just over two minutes left, it created nervousness at the end.

But Vancouver held on and secured the win – the team's fourth win in six matches.

The 26-year-old Pettersson has been playing for Vancouver since 2018.
