Sales totaled $23 billion, compared with analysts' expectations of $20.6 billion, according to a Bloomberg compilation of forecasts.
The company is raising its full-year forecast. Eli Lilly now forecasts revenue of $85-87 billion for the full year, compared with a previous forecast of $82-85 billion.
Adjusted earnings per share increased 33 percent year over year to $8.38 in the quarter, higher than the expected $6.31.
Eli Lilly, with the best-selling Zepbound and Mounjaro, is often described as Novo Nordisk's arch-rival in weight-loss drugs. Novo Nordisk fell 5 percent on the Copenhagen Stock Exchange after its report.
