Elfsborg had the chance to pass AIK and move up to third place in the table since the Stockholm team surprisingly lost to Halmstad.
But Elfsborg also got nothing and now a whole eight points separate them from the series-leading Mjällby. The Borås team has, however, one match less played.
The team took a firm grip on the events against an injury-plagued Häcken, but did not get a payoff.
Instead, John Paul Dembe could head in 1–0 for the visitors in the 33rd minute. Home goalkeeper Simon Eriksson saved a header from Silas Andersson, but no better than that he directed the ball to a perfect position for Dembe.
In added time, Dembe then shot 2–0 in a free situation.
Elfsborg has thus not scored a goal after the summer break, when last weekend's away game against the bottom team Värnamo ended 0–0.
Djurgården has had it tough with the goal scoring and had only made nine goals in 13 matches before the home game with the newcomer Degerfors.
There, however, Djurgården got a good payoff and won with a whole 5–1 after Tokmac Nguen made a hat-trick and August Priske scored two goals.
