The announcement by Electrolux to cut 1,700 jobs in Italy is prompting the country's government to take action. Industry Minister Adolfo Urso will meet with affected unions and regional representatives, the government announced.

The announcement has prompted unions to call a two-day strike. The 1,700 positions represent around 40 percent of the company's employees in Italy.
