The Government proposes reduced tax for wage earners and pensioners and cheaper preschool in the autumn budget. For a family, it can be about approximately 1 800 kronor more in the wallet every month.

The governing parties are introducing a large support package for households totaling over 30 billion kronor.

This is now entering the Swedish households' economy and strengthens both mothers, fathers, pensioners, and many others who are struggling, says Finance Minister Elisabeth Svantesson (The Moderate Party) at a press conference.

The largest part is a reduced tax on work and pensions for over 21 billion kronor.

For a person with an average salary of around 45,000 kronor per month, the new job tax deduction means 401 kronor more in their pocket every month, according to the government's calculations.

For a pensioner with an average pension of 24,700 kronor per month, it means 143 kronor more.

“Get the economy going”

But the government is also investing in cheaper preschool and reduced electricity tax. In addition, there is the reduced food VAT, which was presented last week.

Overall, this means that the government's example family with “a nurse and a police officer” with two small children in a house will get around 1,800 kronor more in their pocket per month next year.

Reduced tax on work gives a total of 802 kronor more, cheaper preschool 375 kronor more, reduced electricity tax 85 kronor more, and reduced food VAT 545 kronor more.

This makes a difference and is important for both strengthening families and the Swedish economy so that we can get the economy going again, says Svantesson.

The tax will be reduced as early as January 1, while the preschool fee is proposed to be reduced for the first time on July 1 next year.

Overall, the family will have received over 3,500 kronor in reduced tax per month by 2026, compared to 2022, according to the government.

However, there will be no increased child benefits.

What we are doing now with the food VAT of 20 billion and tax cuts of 30 is a huge injection and strengthens Swedish households. It's an enormous package for families, says Svantesson.

Largest so far

The package also includes reduced tax on sickness and activity benefits. The “tax gap” between those who work and those who receive benefits will be eliminated, according to The Moderate Party. On average, this means 1,800 kronor per year in reduced tax.

Exactly how much you get depends on how large your sickness and activity benefits are and any other income, says The Moderate Party's economic policy spokesperson Oscar Sjöstedt.

The government will make investments totaling 80 billion kronor in the budget for the election year 2026. The support package for households is the largest so far.

The government is introducing a support package of almost 30.4 billion kronor for households in the autumn budget.

21.4 billion kronor goes to reduced tax on work and pensions.

6.5 billion goes to reduced electricity tax.

1 billion goes to high-cost protection for electricity.

An additional 1 billion goes to reduced preschool fees.

460 million goes to reduced tax on sickness and activity benefits.

All tax cuts are proposed to come into effect on January 1, 2026, except for the preschool fee, which will be reduced for the first time on July 1, 2026. The high-cost protection for electricity will come into effect in November and apply throughout 2026.
