The losses are extremely large. This weekend, electricity was almost free when the wind was at its strongest. On Tuesday, the average price over 24 hours rises to SEK 2.35/kWh in southernmost Sweden (electricity area 4). It has only been higher once earlier this year.
Even in electricity area 3, northern Götaland and Svealand, it will almost be a new annual record. Only once earlier this year, on February 10, has the daily price been higher than Tuesday's listing, SEK 1.92/kWh, on the Nord Pool electricity exchange.
Even in Norrland it will be unusually expensive, between 98 öre and SEK 1.36.
Generally windless weather, coupled with half of nuclear power being on annual maintenance, explains a large part of it.
And if the pricing of electricity contracts for the coming winter is to be believed, this kind of price spike will become increasingly common. Analysts are talking about prices approaching the energy crisis of 2022/2023.
