The sale of so-called NEV cars – that is, electric cars, hybrids, and cars driven by fuel cell technology – is moving forward in China. In July, they accounted for over half of all sold cars in the country, according to new figures from the Chinese industry organization CPCA.
This is the first time NEV cars have surpassed petrol-driven cars in sales, reports CNBC.
The sale of NEV cars has increased from 36 percent the same period last year, although the statistics from the organization have previously been questioned.
In the USA, the sale of the same group of vehicles was around 18 percent during the first quarter of the year, a small decrease compared to the fourth quarter last year.
In Sweden, rechargeable cars accounted for around 59 percent of all passenger cars registered in July.
