SL is now also banning foldable electric scooters and other small electric vehicles in the subway in Stockholm. The reason is the lithium batteries found in the vehicles, which are considered a fire hazard.

Larger electric scooters have already been banned previously, but from November 25, passengers will not be allowed to bring foldable scooters, hoverboards, or electric unicycles either.

"When lithium batteries start burning, the process is rapid, and the fires are difficult to extinguish. It's a particularly difficult situation in the subway, where so much of the traffic takes place in tunnels and the stations are largely indoors," says Pelle Rytterlund, safety director at the traffic administration, in a press release.

The ban does not apply to electric wheelchairs or mobility scooters. Nor does it apply to commuter trains.
