New statistics from ACEA show that new registrations have increased by 4 percent so far this year compared with the same period last year.
Electric cars have gained market share. In May last year, the share of newly registered electric cars was 15 percent.
Hybrid cars were the most common newly registered vehicles, at 38 percent, while diesel and gasoline combined accounted for 30 percent, down from 38 percent in May last year.
