Electric cars continue to gain market share. In September, almost half, 49 percent, of all newly registered cars were electric, according to new monthly statistics from Mobility Sweden. This compares with 38 percent in the previous month.
"The development for electric cars has been positive so far this year, and September is strengthening the electric car trend. If the trend is to continue, it requires long-term rules of the game, precise policy instruments that lower the barriers to electric cars for more households, but also a charging infrastructure that works in everyday life," says Jessica Alenius, CEO of Mobility Sweden, in a press release.
During the month, 28,667 passenger cars were registered, an increase of approximately 14 percent compared with the same month in 2025. For 2026 as a whole, however, the increase is more modest, close to 4 percent.
