On Wednesday, the municipal election boards will count the advance votes and votes from abroad that did not reach the polling stations on election night. A large number of advance votes arrived late and the number of votes from abroad has increased, meaning that the count is not expected to be fully completed until Thursday, according to the Election Authority.

When the election committees have finished counting, the votes are handed over to the county administrative boards for the final count.

Anna Nyqvist, head of the Swedish Election Authority, says a larger number of votes are expected than in previous elections.

"We cannot know the number in advance, but estimate that there will be close to 300,000 votes in this year's election. This means that the cumulative count will likely take a long time in many municipalities," she says in a comment.
