Rescue efforts continue after the typhoon Ragasa's rampage in Taiwan which has cost over ten people their lives and where over 20 people are still missing.

A man in his 90s could on Thursday be rescued from his flooded home in Hualien in the country's eastern parts where he had been locked in for three days after a dammed lake was flooded as a result of the heavy rainfall.

At least 14 people were confirmed dead on Wednesday in Hualien. Over 50 people are injured, according to the local rescue service.

Almost 500 people from the military, fire department, coast guard and volunteer organizations have been sent to the disaster area where heavy machinery is being used in the clearance work. But the search and rescue work is hindered by the fact that the water level continues to rise and some areas are covered with several meters deep mud.
