During the night, a caller reported that a neighbor had sought shelter with him. The man, who is in his 80s, had reportedly been robbed and assaulted in his home.
He was reportedly surprised in his own home by a man, says police spokesman Wayne Seretis.
The victim has been taken to hospital.
He was able to talk to the police, but he needed medical attention and had to go by ambulance immediately, says Seretis.
Several police patrols were sent to the scene, but no suspects have yet been found. The residence has been cordoned off for a technical examination.
