No further explanation is given as to why Elanga suddenly left the squad.
This is the second time this year he has missed an international match for personal reasons. Last summer he played against Hungary in Budapest but was not in the squad against Algeria.
The difference from now was that that leave was agreed upon with then national team captain Jon Dahl Tomasson before the team gathered for the international matches in June.
“Look at other options”
Graham Potter briefly notes the fact that Elanga is unavailable against Slovenia.
He started against Switzerland, so we have to make a new decision and look at other options, which we have.
First goalkeeper Viktor Johansson did not train with the team on Monday.
After a joint assessment between the medical and sports teams, it is an individual plan in the gym today that applies to him, says the national team's press officer Petra Thorén.
Potter will decide whether or not he plays against Slovenia when he knows more about Johansson's physical status.
"He's recovering today. We'll see how he reacts and then make the decision that's best for us," Potter said.
However, center back Victor Nilsson trained Lindelöf, who was unable to play in the 1–4 loss away to Switzerland in Graham Potter's first international match as national team captain.
The team captain is ready for the game.
"I got a feeling during training. We discussed what we should do and decided not to take any chances. Now I've been doing well in training and am ready if he chooses to start me," Lindelöf said with a nod to Potter at Monday's press conference.
“Positive impression”
Last week, both Lucas Bergvall and Hugo Larsson left the World Cup qualifiers. In addition, right-back Emil Holm injured his groin against Switzerland and was forced to leave the squad on Sunday. Mjällby's Herman Johansson has been called up as a replacement.
He has had a great season. I am impressed by his role in a Swedish Championship winning team. I want to get to know him better. He made a positive impression when I met him, says Graham Potter.
Sweden is bottom of the group, but is ready for the World Cup playoffs in March thanks to the group victory in the Nations League in the fall of 2024.
Approximately 30,000 spectators are expected at Strawberry Arena. The match will be played behind closed doors.
