Rubio: El Salvador can accept US prisoners

El Salvador has offered to receive both deported migrants and convicted or already imprisoned individuals from the USA. This is stated by the US Secretary of State Marco Rubio after meeting President Nayib Bukele on site in the country.

However, whether US citizens will actually end up in one of El Salvador's notorious prisons remains to be seen. A source within the Trump administration tells the AP news agency that they currently have no such plans, and that US citizens cannot be deported in that way according to current law.
