Eklund set up teammate Bo Horvat's 1–1 goal in the second period.
He moved to North America when Djurgården was eliminated from the SHL playoffs, and has since played seven games for the farm team Bridgeport. During that time, he has scored two goals and seven assists.
"It's, of course, a very good league, the toughest there is, and I think it went pretty well," Eklund said about the NHL after his debut.
Swede Joel Nyström also scored an assist in Wednesday night's game, when he set up Carolina's decisive 2-1 goal in the third period.
