Liverpool striker Hugo Ekitiké decided the league cup match against Southampton, but was sent off after celebrating by pulling off his red jersey. Now he apologizes on social media.

”I was so happy to help the team to victory in my first league cup match. The feelings took over and I apologize to the entire red family”, writes the football star on Instagram.

The Frenchman received a yellow card for his goal celebration, but had already received a warning after hitting the ball away after a whistle. The consequence was therefore a red card and now the striker is suspended in Saturday's Premier League match away against Crystal Palace.

It was unnecessary and stupid, says coach Arne Slot.

Record signing Alexander Isak is struggling to get in shape for play in a whole match. The Swede started against Southampton and scored his first Liverpool goal just before the break, but was substituted after 45 minutes at Anfield in favor of Ekitiké.

Ekitiké was signed from Eintracht Frankfurt this summer and has scored five goals in eight matches.
