Eight US States Sue OpenAI Over ChatGPT’s Alleged Harm to Children and Dangerous Advice

Eight US states are suing AI giant OpenAI, alleging that its chatbot, ChatGPT, harms children and gives dangerous advice, the AP reports.

“OpenAI is harming children and lying to the people of Iowa,” Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird said in a statement.

Iowa is one of eight US states now suing OpenAI, arguing that the company’s chatbot, ChatGPT, violates state consumer protection laws.

The states say, among other things, that the chatbot provides dangerous medical advice and encourages users to harm others or take their own lives.

The states suing the AI giant are Iowa, Nebraska, Montana, Arizona, Idaho, Arkansas, Kansas and West Virginia. The lawsuits were filed in the states’ respective courts on Wednesday.

Florida also sued the AI company in June this year.
