Three airstrikes were reportedly carried out on vehicles traveling on the highway on Wednesday, killing eight people, including two children, according to Lebanon's health ministry.
The attacks took place near the communities of Barja, Jiyeh and Saadiyat and followed warnings from the Israeli military of imminent strikes against the Iran-backed Shiite militia Hezbollah.
The Israeli military says it is striking Hezbollah "terror infrastructure" in several areas. The attacks come after an early-morning evacuation order was issued for civilians in at least seven villages.
