It was the Hindu organisation Baps that visited the Eiffel Tower this weekend. Before the visit, they requested that contact with female staff be minimised.

The tower's operator Sete now says that "such conditions would not have been accepted."

Sete employees went on strike after the incident, leading to the tower being closed on Monday. Staff describe it as shocking that “female employees were ignored, replaced and made invisible.”

But after Sete apologised, the tower can reopen, media in France reported on Tuesday morning.

Baps has also been somewhat hesitant, and according to the AFP news agency, it regrets any "suffering or inconvenience" that the incident may have caused.
