Eidevall leaves Arsenal after a tough start

Only one win in four matches and 2-5 against Bayern Munich in the Champions League. The pressure on Arsenal's Swedish coach Jonas Eidevall has been tough and now he chooses to leave the Super League club.

On the London club's website, it is confirmed that Eidevall, who came to Arsenal in 2021, is leaving with immediate effect.

"We thank Jonas for his dedication to the club and for what he has achieved since he came here in 2021", says sports director Edu Gaspar.

Under Eidevall, who came from Rosengård, Arsenal has won the league cup twice and in 2023, the team reached the Champions League semi-finals.

But the start of this season has been anything but perfect. One win and only 0-0 against bottom-placed Everton. Moreover, a heavy defeat against Bayern München in the Champions League. Arsenal is currently sixth in the Super League with five points.

After the 1-2 loss against Chelsea on Saturday, Eidevall said, considering the pressure on the team:

We are suffering, I am suffering, the players are suffering. We want to do better. Everyone should understand how hard the players work, how much heart they have (for the club).

It doesn't help that we have ambitions to win the league and it's just acknowledging that we've had a bad start to the season.

Assistant coach Renée Slegers will take over temporarily until a new head coach is in place. Already on Wednesday, Arsenal will meet Vålerengen in the Champions League.

In Arsenal, there are the Swedish national team players Amanda Ilestedt, Rosa Kafaji, Lina Hurtig, and Stina Blackstenius.
