The accident occurred on Saturday, when a passenger train derailed on the way from Cairo to the northwestern province of Matrouh.
Seven cars derailed and two of them overturned, according to a statement from the country's railway authority. At least three people were killed and over 90 injured.
Train accidents occur at regular intervals in Egypt, where the aged railway system has long been plagued by neglect.
