He plays the role of Jack - Leonardo DiCaprio's old signature role.
"It's a huge challenge. There are big shoes to fill and it's both exciting and scary," Edvin Törnblom tells TT.
At the same time, the parody format gives him good opportunities to poke fun at the original.
Everyone has their own relationship to DiCaprio's role as Jack Dawson, and that can also be used and played on.
It is also Edvin Törnblom's first musical role.
"I've been taking singing lessons for a couple of years now and will now take even more. Then I hope to get valuable tips from the seasoned musical artists who are in the show," he says.
A twisted story
"Titanic" has been performed on both Broadway and in London's West End, and the twisted story of the sinking of the Titanic was awarded two prizes at the 2025 Olivier Awards. In the performance, a fictionalized version of Céline Dion plays an important role - namely, it is the world star's highly original story of what happened aboard the ill-fated ship that is conveyed to the audience.
Edward af Sillén is responsible for the Swedish translation and also directs the production, which will have its Swedish premiere at the Stockholm Stock Exchange on January 15.
Everyone who loves Céline Dion and who loves the film will laugh their heads off, says Edward af Sillén.
Even those who love to hate "Titanic" will get their fill, af Sillén believes. In the Swedish version of the musical, the audience will also be able to recognise the elements that drive the phenomenon in Swedish popular culture. For example, one scene is based on the acclaimed duet that Céline Dion did with Tommy Körberg, and where Körberg steals the show in a surprising way, to say the least.
Tommy Körberg starts wailing and completely sings over Céline Dion, says Edward af Sillén.
“Flip with heart”
The role of Rose is played by Alma Bengtsson and the over-the-top Céline Dion, who tells the "true" story of the love couple, is played by Linda Olsson.
A live band plays on stage and among the songs are Dion songs such as "My Heart Will Go On" and "All by Myself".
There will be plenty of opportunities for improvisation, sing-alongs and interaction between the actors and the audience. This is a musical for anyone who wants to see something fun and wacky and with a lot of heart, says Edward af Sillén.
In the musical version, a fictionalized version of Céline Dion appears and claims to have survived the sinking of the Titanic and knows what really happened to Jack and Rose, who appear in James Cameron's 1997 film "Titanic."
The entire musical is a riff on the film, with many loving nods to various scenes, and includes a number of Céline Dion songs.
The Swedish version features Edvin Törnblom, Alma Bengtsson, Linda Olsson, Hanna Hedlund, Kim Sulocki, Anton Lundqvist, Martin Redhe Nord and Kayo Shekoni.
