Educational Radio concentrates its production to Stockholm and closes its operations in Gothenburg and Malmö. This is problematic, says the Chairman of the Journalists' Association Ulrika Hyllert, to Swedish Radio Cultural News.

Eight services are affected by the cutbacks in Gothenburg and Malmö. Instead, three new services are being established in Stockholm, where all production for Educational Radio (UR) is being gathered.

UR has a mission to reflect the entire country, but CEO Kalle Sandhammar believes that the mission can be fulfilled even if all operations are concentrated in Stockholm.

We travel around, have contacts, and ensure that we are also present outside the three largest cities. And that can be solved from Stockholm in the same way as it can be solved from Malmö and Gothenburg, he says to Kulturnytt.

But the Chairman of the Journalists' Union, Ulrika Hyllert, believes that it is important in itself that there are employees who live and work outside Stockholm.

I think it's an old-fashioned way of thinking to believe that you can reflect the entire country if all employees both work and live in Stockholm. From that perspective, I think this is problematic, she says to Kulturnytt.
