It was not one of Adam Edström's most beautiful goals in his ice hockey career, but oh so important.
The Swedish forward steered in a backshot from New York Rangers teammate Braden Schneider just over five minutes into the third period of the derby against Islanders. The goal was Edström's first for the season and meant a 4–2 lead.
In the attack before, Bo Horvat was extremely close to equalizing to 3–3 at Madison Square Garden, but Rangers goalkeeper Igor Sjestiorkin made a giant save.
Islanders tried to catch up and pulled out goalkeeper Ilja Sorokin, but it ended with Artemi Panarin scoring his second goal of the evening into an empty net for the final result 5–2.
Rangers' Swedish center star Mika Zibanejad was credited with three assists in the match.
Pierre Engvall and Simon Holmström each got an assist for Islanders' 1–2 reduction.
