Norwegian Karsten Warholm won the race in 46.63, a new championship record. Behind him, German Emil Agyekum, Turkey's Ismail Nezir and Edlund competed for two medals.
"Who the hell wants to come fourth? I’ve been training to come top three all year and then I finish fourth, I’m not happy with that," Edlund says in the mixed zone.
The 23-year-old set a Swedish record in the semi-final in 47.81, and in the final it was 48.36. Agyekum took silver in 47.87 and Nezir bronze in 48.26.
"Fourth is not enough in my head. I would have liked to be at least third, quite honestly. In my own world I thought I would come second," the Swede says.
