The truck driver was arrested near the Colombian border with 469 kilos of cocaine in the shipment, police said. So far, no explanation has been found for why there were stickers with Erling Haaland on the cocaine packages.
According to the AP, it is common for drug traffickers to label their products with the names of well-known athletes and other celebrities, as a way of signalling which criminal network has produced the goods and to which customer they are being sent.
Ecuador is considered a strategic country for drug trafficking, with distribution mainly through Central America and to the United States, but also Europe.
