The Ebola outbreak has claimed 360 lives and caused 1,274 confirmed cases of infection since it began in mid-May, according to figures compiled by the World Health Organization (WHO).
The Ebola haemorrhagic fever broke out in Ituri province. On Monday, it was confirmed that the Ebola virus had spread to the north-eastern province of Haut-Uele, which borders South Sudan and the Central African Republic.
The current outbreak has been caused by the so-called Bundibugyo variant, for which there is no vaccine or specific treatment. Clinical trials of the vaccine will begin in the coming days, according to the WHO.
