Almost half of the more than 10,000 people infected have died from the disease, according to the Ministry of Health in Kinshasa.
That makes it the deadliest Ebola outbreak in the country's history and also the fastest-growing.
Cases have also been confirmed in Kenya, Uganda and Nigeria.
The Ebola virus is an RNA virus that causes hemorrhagic fever. There is no vaccine or specific treatment for the Bundibugyo variant behind the current outbreak, but development is underway.
