The cut represents about six percent of the company's workforce. The announcement comes just a week after the company acquired second-hand marketplace Depop for about $1.2 billion.
eBay has had three rounds of staff cuts in the past three years. Two years ago, 1,000 positions were cut when it assessed that increased staff costs were outpacing growth.
