The offer from Apollo of £7.15 per share comes after the private equity firm Castlelake, also based in the US, made a slightly lower bid of £6.90 per share for EasyJet.
EasyJet's share price was £5.88 when Thursday's trading on the London Stock Exchange ended and, compared with the closing price on May 28 of £3.94 - before Castlelake's first bid for EasyJet was made - Apollo's bid represents a premium of 81 percent.
