Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday that a ceasefire would be declared.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had already presented a proposal for a ceasefire a week earlier.
The temporary ceasefire will last for 32 hours, from 4 p.m. local time until midnight on Sunday, according to the Kremlin.
Both sides in the Russian invasion have said they will abide by the ceasefire.
