Earth Overshoot Day falls on July 30 as humanity exhausts this year’s renewable resources

We are currently using natural resources 73 percent faster than the Earth's ecosystems can recover - a rate that would require us to have 1.73 Earths, according to the organisation Global Footprint Network, which makes the measurements.

For Sweden, the day came much earlier, on April 4. The worst in the class is Qatar, which already used up its quota for renewable resources on February 4.

In the early 1970s, "Earth overshoot day" occurred at the end of December.
