There was a queue outside the polling station at Malmö Central Station before the polls opened at 7 am. In the end, Leith al-Bayati from the youth wing SSU was the first to vote, closely followed by competitors from Muf.
During the day, several of the leaders of the parliamentary parties are also expected to vote early at various polling stations.
Early voting continues until Election Day, September 13.
"It is a convenience that many voters appreciate, and in recent elections we have seen a trend of more and more people voting early," says Anna Nyqvist, head of the Swedish Election Authority, in a press release.
