The heat wave over Nashville meant that the temperature at kickoff reached 35 degrees Celsius. However, on the artificial turf field it was significantly warmer - to be more precise, 69 degrees, according to ESPN, among others.
Television footage showed players using water to try to cool their football boots during the game, with Philadelphia player Cam Jurgens saying he had to change boots several times because they “melted” during the game. It was even worse for coach Nick Sirianni, who received intravenous treatment after the game.
"This is why we all want real turf, to not expose players to dangerous situations," Philadelphia's Jordan Mailata told ESPN.
