Tarik Saleh became the king of the Guldbagge. His film "Eagles of the Republic" took home six awards - including for best film. However, Veronica Maggio, who was nominated in two categories, did not win a Guldbagge. "Of course I am disappointed," she tells TT.

Veronica Maggio brought her music-world stardom to the film's Guldbagge gala, but had to go home empty-handed from Cirkus in Stockholm.

The role in "7 Steps" was the singer's film debut; she also co-wrote the script for the romantic thriller with director Andreas Öhman, which resulted in two Guldbagge nominations for her.

I really hoped, of course. We've been working on the film for so long. But it's also the first and only film I've contributed to, so you can't expect a Guldbagge for it, Maggio said.

Saleh received the most awards

The award for best actress went to Jessica Grabowsky for the film "Movements," and the award for best screenplay went to Tarik Saleh for "Eagles of the Republic." Maggio therefore does not have a Guldbagge to place next to the six Grammys she has won as an artist.

The film of the year award was taken home by the most-nominated film: Tarik Saleh's "Eagles of the Republic." The film is the third and final standalone film in Tarik Saleh's Cairo trilogy.

The political thriller won six awards, including best film, screenplay and best actor.

"First of all, I just want to say right now that I will not give anything to Donald Trump. We will keep everything and will not give anything to Ulf Kristersson and not to Parisa Liljestrand either," Tarik Saleh told TT after the gala, referring to Nobel laureate María Corina Machado who gave her peace prize to Donald Trump.

Malmkvist references Trump

Fares Fares received the award from Siw Malmkvist, who joked that she had followed the film through the decades, including seeing Charlie Chaplin's "The Dictator" as a young woman. And she thinks the message of that film is still valid.

"No dictator on our streets! I'll be so upset," she exclaimed from the stage.

A moment later, Siw Malmkvist was back on stage to receive the Guldbagge audience award.

"I'm most happy for you," Malmkvist said to the film's director Stina Gardell, who accepted the award with her.

After the gala, Siw Malmkvist told TT how overwhelmed she is by how the film about her life has been received.

It's wonderful. I've never received more love in my entire life than now. It's not wise. Everyone I meet says "big congratulations" and does this, Siw Malmkvist said, patting her heart.
