Police say 24 people have been arrested and water cannons and dogs have been used against the crowd. Those arrested are suspected of throwing fireworks at police, among other things.
Justice Minister David van Weel says in a post on X that demonstrators made Hitler salutes and chanted anti-Semitic slogans.
"Thank you to all the police who are once again standing up for our democratic rule of law," he writes.
Local authorities banned the protest after it turned violent. The 500 or so demonstrators, who had gathered at Malieveld Park to march through the city, were ordered to disperse.
According to the organiser, the purpose was to protest against immigration and migration policy in the country.
